Culture of Himachal Pradesh

  • Himachal Pradesh is a state with mixed culture. On Dussehra, the largest congregation of village gods takes place at Kullu. The celebrations have gained a name because they are unique in style.

Pilgrims travel to Kangra in the month of April for the Navratras, and in September-October, before the Dussehra festival, to pay their homage to Goddess Durga at the Vajreshwari (Kangra Devi) temple.

  • Buddhism also exists here. Villages here have both Hindu and Buddhist temples. The folk songs of Himachal Pradesh are full of charm. The simple rhythm, revolving around the tending field, flock and orchards is punctuated by the celebration of festivals and fairs that bring alive & colorful traditions of music and dance. The people are simple, honest, gentle and very pious. The distinctive part of the Kinnauri dress is the grey woolen cap worn by men and women, called a thepang.

The people of Himachal Pradesh follow a sacred life and worship Hindu gods and goddesses.
